**There are only two character death fics that I'd rec, as I usually avoid them. This is the first, a haunting and painfully real look into love and loss.

The Boy Who Lived a Bit by Barbarella

Summary: Post-Hogwarts, though the War still rages. Harry is holed up at 12 Grimmauld Place with Lupin as his primary protector. Some of the best distractions in these days are provided by one Severus Snape.
**A first-time fic. Her Harry is full of adolescent curiosity and hormones, and her Snape is snarky and obliging. A story that I reread from time to time.

The Challenge by Cybele

**If You Are Prepared by Cybele is my favorite all time Snarry. It's rec-ed everywhere... But this little fic has such an original premise, and a great turn-the-tables moment.

**Heed the warning before you read! I usually avoid 'character death' fics, but this one had me on the edge of my chair. The author lays out a twisted and chilling psychological profile of both Harry and Snape, with an ending that's inevitable, hammering home the truth that revenge really is a dish best served cold.

Learning to Uncurl by Amorette

Summary: A decade after hostilities are over, Harry finds his Animagus form to be terribly relaxing and since he thinks Snape needs to learn to relax, suggests Snape learn to be an animal as well. Surprises ensue.
**This is a genfic. The word 'relaxing' in the summary says it all. There's a lovely détente between Harry in Snape here; Harry's mature desire to help Snape find his 'inner animal' is poignant, and the description is so vibrant and realistic that the reader wants to find his own rock to curl up on too.

**It's a tribute to how well-written this story is that I'm rec-ing it, as the ending, initially, left me stunned and feeling cheated. But I've come to appreciate that what the author has done is rather realistic. The sexual scenes in this fic are hot beyond description, and the convoluted games that the two of them play make for an all-around plotty and satisfying read.

Walking the Mirror's Edge by Rushlight

Summary: The story of "Through a Shattered Mirror" told from Snape's point of view. WARNING: spoilers for TaSM.
**If you've not read, "Through a Shattered Mirror" by the same author, you might want to read it first. Snape's POV of those circumstances fleshes out that entire saga, gives it a depth and pathos that it wouldn't otherwise have. Of the two, this is my favorite. A wartime story, one in which Snape makes hard choices, is misunderstood, but in the end is vindicated, at least in the eyes of those that count the most.

Beacon by Venivincere

**This is a wartime fic, where not all is as it seems. Satisfying to read, with an original and unusual twist.

**This is a Genfic that will make you laugh out loud; there's some twiggish sexual innuendo that's delightful, but it's the author's tongue-in-cheek style that makes this primo.

When Cars Fly by TheMadScriptor

Summary: P-n-W Flying Motor Works relies on Slug and Jiggers for certain vehicular potions—after all, that Muggle oil is rubbish, really. (Don't even get Harry started on the antifreeze.) When Jiggers goes on sabbatical, Harry learns that Snape isn't dead, knows a bit of Italian, and gives a really good blow-job.
**This is funny stuff, but there's great characterization and innovative magic and beautiful writing.

Bound Skerry by Frayach (art by Jinn)

Summary: Harry has a secret hidden away on the remotest of the Shetland Islands.
**Written for the Beltane fest, this is a stunning characterization of a sort of dark and brooding!Harry, who visits a war-defeated Draco once a year. There is art interspersed within the text, but it's not over-powering, and adds to the haunting quality of the story. Heed the warnings!

The Pond by Valis2

Warnings: You should avoid this fic if you are claustrophobic. This is not a romantic pairing.
Summary: Severus Snape expects death after the snakebite, but discovers that Fate has other plans for him.**Won't find me rec-ing many Hermione with Snape stories, and as the warning states, this isn't exactly a 'pairing' fic. It's got an odd twist to it that won't let go of you as you read. The author admits that she dreamt this; I'm not sure--'nightnmared' it is more apt, but once you start to read, you're a goner.

The (Un)Professional by Amand_r
Rating/Type: Rated R for graphic violence, and sex.
Characters: Harry/Severus, Ron, Hermione, Angelina Johnson, Draco, and one huge surprise!
Warning: Some canonically dead people are not so very much dead. Is that a warning?
Summary: "Sir, it's out of my hands. The gods want you to go to your Hogwarts reunion, and they want you to delete someone while you're there." This is a "frusion" of Harry Potter and the film Grosse Point Blank. One need not have seen the film to read the story, but if you have, you will note key similarities and some cribbed dialogue.**This was written for the 2008 Snarry Games, Team Dragon, and is a delightfully witty and humorous take on the movie mentioned; AU, of course, but even though Harry is a gun-toting assassin, he's still Harry. I was fascinated to see how the canon characters took on the movie personas and still were IC.
